Board Link vs Pin Link: Why Downloads Fail
PintSave β€” Guide

Board Link vs Pin Link: The #1 Reason Pinterest Downloads Fail

You copy a link straight from Pinterest, paste it into a downloader, and nothing loads. The link looks right. It's definitely from Pinterest. It just doesn't work.

In most cases, the link is a board link, not a Pin link. They come from the same share menu and look similar at a glance, but they point to completely different things.

Here's how to tell them apart before you paste.

Why This Mix-Up Happens

Pinterest has separate share actions for a single Pin, a full board, and a profile. Each one has its own Copy Link button, but they all sit in similar-looking share menus.

Pinterest's own help documentation confirms that Pins, boards, and profiles are each shared through distinct actions, with a separate copy-link option for every content type.

A downloader is built to read one specific Pin's media file. A board link points to a whole collection page instead, so the tool has nothing single to extract.

Board Link vs Pin Link, Side by Side

Board Link

Points to an entire collection of pins. No single video, image, or GIF file attached to it directly.

Pin Link

Points to one specific Pin. This is the link a downloader actually needs to work.

01 Open the Specific Pin

Don't stop on the board page. Tap into the individual Pin you want to save so you land on its own detail page.

02 Tap the Share Icon on the Pin

Make sure you're tapping share from inside the Pin itself, not from the board's overview page.

03 Select Copy Link

This gives you the direct URL for that one Pin.

04 Check the URL Before Pasting

A working Pin link contains /pin/ followed by a number. If your copied link shows a username and board name instead, go back and copy the link again from inside the Pin.

Fastest way to check

  • Pin link: includes /pin/ in the URL
  • Board link: shows a username followed by a board name, no /pin/
  • Profile link: shows only a username, nothing after it
