How to Save Pinterest Images in Full Resolution (Not the Compressed Thumbnail)
You right-click a Pinterest image, hit "Save As," and open the file later β only to find it blurry, small, or pixelated when you zoom in or print it.
That's because your browser saved the compressed preview Pinterest displays on screen, not the original file behind it.
Here's how to get the full-resolution version instead, in four steps.
Why the Saved Image Looks Compressed
Pinterest displays a smaller, faster-loading version of every image in your feed and search results. This keeps pages loading quickly as you scroll through hundreds of pins.
The original file, the one the creator actually uploaded, is stored separately. A standard right-click only captures whatever version is currently rendered on your screen, which is almost always the compressed one.
01 Open the Pin You Want to Save
Find the image Pin and open its full detail page on Pinterest, either through the app or your browser.
02 Copy the Direct Pin Link
Tap the share icon and select Copy Link. This copies the URL for that specific pin, not a board or search page.
03 Paste the Link Into the Downloader
Go to our Pinterest Image Downloader and paste the link into the input box. The tool retrieves the original file Pinterest has stored for that pin, not the on-screen preview.
04 Download the Full-Resolution File
Tap download and save the image to your device. You get the same quality the creator originally uploaded, ready for printing, editing, or design reference.
A quality limit worth knowing
The downloaded file can only be as sharp as what the creator uploaded in the first place. If the original source was already low-resolution, no downloader can recover detail that was never captured.
Formats You'll See
Pinterest accepts image Pins as JPEG, PNG, WEBP, TIFF, or BMP files. Your download keeps whichever format the original upload used, so a PNG with a transparent background stays a PNG.
Pinterest's own Pin spec guide confirms these are the accepted image file types for Pins, alongside file size limits of 20 MB on web and up to 1 GB on the mobile app.
Paste any public Pinterest image link into our Pinterest Image Downloader and get the full-resolution file in seconds, no account or software install required.
Need videos or GIFs instead? Use our Pinterest Video Downloader or Pinterest GIF Downloader.
